Code of Conduct for Wikitravel Press Editors
October 27, 2007
Preamble
Editors of Wikitravel Press guides are responsible for everything published in their guides. They should strive to meet the needs of readers and authors; constantly improve the guide; ensure the quality of the material they publish; maintain the integrity of the guide; and always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications and apologies when needed.
Working with the Wikitravel community
The content of travel guides relies on additions, updates and corrections by contributors. The community must be consulted before making significant changes to the organisation, layout or content of any article, and the consensus of the community must be respected even if it goes against the editor's wishes. Editors should avoid personal attacks, slurs and profanity in interactions with other members of the community.
Status on Wikitravel
Editors are not granted any special status on the Wikitravel website; any respect must be earned. Editors are subject to all standing Wikitravel policies, but are welcome to involve themselves in the process of changing them.
Quality and corrections
Editors should take all reasonable steps to ensure the quality of the material they publish. Whenever it is recognised that a significant inaccuracy or misleading statement has been published, it must be corrected promptly and with due prominence. Apologies must be published whenever appropriate.
Relationship to businesses and advertisers
Editors must must maintain the principle of editorial independence. Decisions on what to publish must be based on quality and suitability for readers rather than financial or political gain.
Complaint resolution
Editors should respond promptly to complaints. Complaints that cannot be resolved by the editors must be escalated to Wikitravel Press management.
